Today Density released its first Workplace Benchmark, a look back on 2023.

Here are the headlines:

1. While office utilization increased by 29% from 2022, US offices remain wildly underused at 27% average peak utilization in 2023.

2. The new normal isn’t exactly buzzing yet: Nearly half of all spaces sat empty for more than 7 hours per day on average in 2023.

3. Meeting room squatters have become space designers’ enemy #1 . Nearly 50% of the time, meeting rooms are being used by one person – regardless of capacity – reflecting the need for acoustic privacy to take video calls.
